Controversy, Rap & Real Estate

Nový Opatov is a major new development by FINEP, one of the largest Czech developers, located in Jižní Město - Prague’s largest housing estate and an area with a complicated public image.

For some, Jižní Město still carries the stigma of concrete, distance and socialist-era urban planning. For others, it means home, memory, community and represents a strong cultural symbol.

This talk will show how a controversial place identity became the starting point for a advertising campaign - and how local tension, cultural memory and a legendary Czech rap reference helped reframe the story of a new real estate project.

Takeaways

  • Use tension with purpose. Controversy can create attention when it is rooted in a real cultural insight.
  • Work with the place, not against it. Strong local identities often carry both stigma and pride.
  • Let the idea shape the format. A good case study should not only explain the campaign, it should continue it.
